Hi…I’m Monica, and I am just an average girl who is obsessed with love, my family, exploring the world and meeting new people.
I am not sure how you found me, but I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. So, however you found me in this crazy internet world; thank you for popping by.
The purpose of my blog is to inspire couples and share advice and tips through my experiences and expertise as a destination wedding planner, industry speaker & trainer. However, for my first blog post… I decided to go out on a whim… and take the opportunity to introduce myself on a more personal level. Although destination weddings are my passion and my professional career…. it does not define who I am as a person.
So here we go…
I am more than just a wedding planner and lover of “all things weddings”… I am also a mom, a wife, a sister, a daughter, an aunt and a friend…. and I confidently wear all of these hats with pride.
I was born in beautiful Kelowna, BC and then raised in the world’s largest hamlet in Sherwood Park, Alberta. I am a sister to three brothers and daughter to the best parents in the world. My parents were the true definition of what love and marriage should represent. Unfortunately, I lost my father to cancer several years ago; and since then; it has completely changed my perspective on how to embrace ALL of life’s little moments. I am a firm believer that we should never take anything for granted (because life really can be short)… and to always follow our dreams and passions, and do what sets our hearts on fire. (And for me… that is the “career of love” in destination wedding planning.) My mom is my best friend and my mentor in life. I have never met anyone who shows such grace, partnered with unwavering strength.
I hit a big milestone this year…. I turned 40.
I thought that turning forty would be a little intimidating… and to be honest, I expected that it would make me feel more like a “real grown up”… but I don’t. I am at that stage in my life where I am learning to focus my energy and attention on the things that give purpose and meaning. I am learning to accept the things I cannot change and shed any insecurities. I am learning about the importance of self care. I care about nurturing authentic relationships within my own tribe… relationships that bring value to my life and make me feel loved and inspired.
I am the mother to an almost four year old named Jaden. And yes, you read that correctly… I am 40 years old and navigating life with a toddler. Am I crazy? Maybe. But I would not change a thing…
Motherhood has been the ultimate blessing in my life.
My son is 100% my “mini-me.” Jaden is spirited, exuberant and full of non-stop energy. I approach the perspective of his qualities knowing that my son will be driven, full of perseverance and have a big personality… (just like his mama!) I embrace these qualities and cannot wait to see what life has in store for my little sunshine.
I am a wife to the most amazing man in the world, Gregory. We met while I was visiting Barbados on a work trip. And I can say from 100% truthfulness, that from the moment we met, it really was a “love at first sight” cliché moment… it was completely undeniable.
I always say that if it wasn’t for my career as a destination wedding planner… I would have never met the true love of my life.
Fast forward two years, and we eloped on a beach in Barbados where Greg grew up (And yes, you read that right… I am the wedding planner that eloped) and then several months later, Greg moved to Canada to join me and begin our new life together. Greg really is my best friend. I tell him everything, and we love to be together. We raise our son together, take care of the house together… if I am there, he is there. It just works.
My family is my life. If the past year in living through a pandemic has taught us anything; it is to hold your loved ones near, we start and end with family.
Thank you for coming along this journey with me as I create the life of my dreams through love and adventure. With my colorful imagination, I cannot wait to inspire you and take you on an adventure in the coming posts about destination weddings, life and love!
